Gender Approach to Contemporary Issues of Studying Personages’ Speech

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to introduce the overview of contemporary issues in studying personages’ speech in the aspect of gender linguistics. The study introduces modern understanding of the gender notion together with the analysis of basic achievements of this linguistic sphere, with the idea of concentrating on the contemporary research paradigm which unites communicative, discourse and functional approaches to studying speech, and in particular to studying personages’ speech in intergender dialogues in a belles-lettres discourse. With this respect, the paper also includes modern interpretation of a dialogue in discourse and pragmatic studies together with a short overview of research methods applied. The main accent is made on the introduction of the perspective notion and theory. A short history of the given phenomenon in Ukrainian and foreign linguistics and the main points of the theory are presented, as the given theory is considered a fruitful and topical instrument for studying intergender dialogues in a belles-lettres discourse. The present day situation with a gender vector in perspective studies is also presented. The conclusion as to the topicality and novelty of the approach described is understood as the main result of the research introduced in the article. The prospect of further research of the material mentioned is viewed as the application of the approach in question which should include elements of cognitive and narrative investigation paradigms. This research technique will enable obtaining deeper understanding of gender peculiarities of perspective construction process and of verbal means of constructing inner and outer perspective in a belles-lettres discourse.
