Journal Title: Eurasian Journal of Family Medicine - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 3
Abstract
Aim: Night Eating Syndrome was first described by Stunkard in 1955 as a disorder in treatment-resistant obesity patients characterized by morning anorexia, evening hyperphagia and insomnia. Night Eating Syndrome seems to be a unique combination of eating, sleep and mood disorders. The objective of this study is to evaluate internal reliability of Night Eating Questionnaire in general adult population. Methods: The Night Eating Questionnaire was first developed by Allison et al. and later was adapted into Turkish and evaluated the reliability and validity by Atasoy et al. The sample of this study consisted of 51 patients aged over 18 years who applied to Ayşekadın Outpatient Center affiliated with Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. Patients who did not want to participate in the study and patients under 18 were excluded. Results: Cronbach’s alpha showed overall coefficient of 0.887. Cronbach’s alpha was calculated for each item, the lowest coefficient was 0.859, whereas the highest was 0.890. Conclusion: The Night Eating Questionnaire is proven to be applicable to general adult population after our internal reliability analysis.
