Abstract
Abstract: If really the basic function of language is communication, then it is natural that the discourse or speech be meaningful, not only for what it conveys but also for what it could have conveyed. This study aims at analyzing the change from « denoted » meaning into the « derived» one, measuring the influence of syntax upon semantics, and revealing the importance of the link between thought and language, seeing that meaning does not always directly pertain to grammatical rules. Résumé: Si tant est que la fonction essentielle du langage est la communication, il est alors naturel que le discours ou la parole soit significatif, non seulement en vertu de ce qu’il dit, mais aussi de ce qu’il aurait pu dire. Cette étude vise à réfléchir sur le passage du sens dénoté au sens dérivé, à mesurer l’influence de la syntaxe sur la sémantique, vu que la signification ne procède pas toujours directement des règles grammaticales.
