Abstract
The article describes the way of life and political activity of the prominent representative of the aristocracy of Northeastern Hungary, the contender for the prince's throne of Transylvania – Balint Drugeth (1577-1609). Historical science considers him to be an inconsistent person, an epigone of Ishtvan Bochkаi, but from the available sources there is an image of a moderate, weighed politician who realized that the historical conditions of his time did not give him the opportunity to establish a new princely dynasty in a neighboring state.
