A clinical study and management of cholelithiasis

Abstract
Background: In the day to day life cholelithiasis becomes emerging cause of morbidity. Cholelithiasis is the chronic recurrent disease of the hepatobiliary system. Disturbance in the metabolism of cholesterol, bilirubin and bile acids are characterized by gallstone formation. Objective: To study the age and sex distribution of Gall Stone disease, to study the various modes of presentation, to evaluate the complications of cholelithiasis. Methods: Present study included randomly selected 100 diagnosed patients of cholelithiasis admitted in G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Data regarding clinical presentation, anatomical distribution, management and outcome were recorded and analyzed. Results: Out of 100 patients 48% were men and 58% were women. Pain in abdomen was most commonly presenting symptom in 89% study population. Chronic cholecytitis (64%) and acute cholecytitis (09%) was the commonly seen complication. Conclusion: Increase in the incidence of gall stone diseaseleads to great need, for the study of its developing incidence, different presentations due to changes in life style, associated risk factors and clinical presentations.
