A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE PHYTOCHEMICALS, ANTIOXIDANT, ANTIDIABETIC AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF THE LEAVES OF SOLANUM NIGRUM AND SOLANUM TRILOBATUM
Journal Title: World Journal of Pharmaceutical Research - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 9
Abstract
Medicinal plants, medicinal herbs, or simply herbs have been identified and used from prehistoric times. Plants make many chemical compounds for biological functions, including defence against insects, fungi and herbivorous mammals. Over 12,000 active compounds are known to science. Extraction and characterization of various active phytoconstituents from these green factories have given birth to some highly active profile drug. Most of the plants are found to be rich in one or more elements, thus providing a probable relation to the therapeutic action of the medicine. The deficiency & excess of essential micronutrients and trace toxic metals can cause serious effects on health. Plants alter the elemental distribution and metal accumulation to a large extent without toxic effects in response to environmental stress. Usually mineral elements form a small portion of total combination of most plant material and of total body weight; However it was of immense physiological significance mostly in body metabolism. The present Research work is a comparative study of the Phytochemical, Antioxidant, Antidiabetic and Antimicrobial activity of the leaves of Solanum nigrum and Solanum trilobatum.
