Abstract
Stainless ste e ls (SS) a re the most use f ul ca te g o ry in the f a mi l y of steels due to their g re a t p r op e rties like str e n g th, fo r mabili t y , lust r e a nd co r r o sion r e sistan c e e t c . T h e se ste e ls a re wid e l y used in ma n y industr i a l, medi ca l a nd ma r ine a pp l ic a tions e tc. I n t h e stainl e ss ste e ls ca t e go r y , the m o st import a nt ste e ls are a ustenitic stainl e ss ste e l s ( A SSs). The u s e of stainl e ss ste e ls is g r ow i ng d u e to their e x ce ll e nt c o r rosion r e sistan ce , ea se o f mainten an ce , a ttr a c tive a pp e ar a nc e , d u c tili t y , to u g h n e ss a nd f i re r e sistance. Th e se st e e ls ca n a lso be st r e n g thened b y c old w o rking met h od to ac hieve a h i g h ul t im a te tensile str e n g th ( U TS) a nd y ield str e n g th ( Y S) v a lues. The main obje c tive of t h e p re s e nt work is to stu d y about the different grades of austenitic stainless steels and effect of alloying addition on the properties of theses steels.
