A strategy of chemical control of Apera spica-venti L. resistant to sulfonylureas traced on the molecular level
Journal Title: Journal of Plant Protection Research - Year 2017, Vol 57, Issue 2
Abstract
Three populations of silky bent grass (Apera spica-venti L.) were tested – one that is susceptible and two that are resistant to sulfonylureas. This study assessed the efficacy of control by different herbicides in a pot experiment and estimated the molecular status of resistance to sulfonylureas in analysed populations and its effect on the efficacy of different chemical treatments. The three most effective herbicide rotation schemes were: 1) chlorsulfuron + isoproturon, ethametsulfuron + metazachlor + quinmerac, chlorsulfuron + isoproturon; 2) prosulfocarb + difl ufenican, ethametsulfuron + quizalofop-p-ethyl, prosulfocarb + diflufenican; 3) difl ufenican + fl ufenacet, quizalofop-p-ethyl, diflufenican + fl ufenacet. In most cases it was more difficult to destroy 100% of the resistant population from Modgarby where the majority of plants had no mutation in the als gene. In the resistant population from Babin there were significantly more individuals with mutation in the als gene, therefore exhibiting target-site resistance.

Improving biological control of stalk borers in sugarcane by applying silicon as a soil amendment
The sugarcane stalk borers, Sesamia spp. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) are the most destructive sugarcane insect pests in Iran. The efficiency of Telenomus busseolae Gahan (Hymenoptera: Scelionidae) used alone or in combinati...
Effects of wheat-canola intercropping on Phelipanche aegyptiaca parasitism
Parasitic weeds especially Phelipanche aegyptiaca decrease severely the production of canola. This study evaluated the effect of intercropping different wheat genotypes with canola on Phelipanche aegyptiaca growth. Ten w...

The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the potential of chitosan alone and in combination with various agricultural wastes for the management of rootknot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita on eggplant cv. ‘BR...
Plants containing cardiac glycosides showing antiphytoviral activity against Potato virus Y (PVYNTN) on tobacco plants
The tuber necrotic strain of Potato virus Y (PVYNTN) causes widespread disease and has severe negative effects on the growth and yields of plants, especially those of the Solanaceae family. The consequences of residual t...
A lag in the advancement of biotechnology: reliable control of maize stem borers in Africa
The future of food security in Africa is being severely threatened due to an exponential increase in population, which is almost three times the increase of food production. Maize production is constrained by stem borers...
