Ability of Carbon Absorption in Urban Forest in Banda Aceh, Indonesia
Journal Title: IOSR Journal of Environmental Science, Toxicology and Food Technology (IOSR-JESTFT) - Year 2018, Vol 12, Issue 1
Abstract
The green open space in the urban area is diminishing, this situation will cause increased concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease the concentration of oxygen in the air. In order to prevent this condition from happening or at least be offset, a sufficient amount of green open space is needed so that the amount of carbon-absorbing vegetation is proportional to the amount of air pollutants, so the quality of the environment is well preserved. The benefits of green vegetation in the open space that is as producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide through photosynthesis. Plants require carbon dioxide, water, and nutrients and sunlight for their survival. Plants convert carbon dioxide and water with the aid of sunlight (as a source of energy) to carbohydrates, oxygen, and water. These carbohydrates are stored in stems, leaves, flowers, twigs, and fruits, so that the carbon stored in plants (vegetation) can describe the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by vegetation.

Effect of Sprouting Time on the Nutrient and Anti-Nutrient Properties of Cowpea (Vigna Unguiculata)
In this study the effect of sprouting time (0h, 24h, 48h, 72h, 96h and 120h) on the nutritional, and anti-nutritional properties of cowpea was investigated. Cowpea seeds were sprouted in the laboratory under room conditi...
Effect of Induced pH Change on Overburden Topsoil Nutrient Availability in Bituminous Area of Ondo State, Nigeria
In the development of open pit mining scheme for bituminous sand exploitation, one of the primary operations carried out is the stripping operation (the removal and displacement of overburden materials overlying the depo...
Predictive Modeling and Optimization of Extrusion Cooking Process for Color Characteristics and Consumer Acceptability of Fortified Rice Snacks
Production of extruded snacks from different blends of low grade milled rice and cowpea flours was conducted and extrusion parameters were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) and desirability function. A 3...
Efficient removal of reactive dyes from industrial wastewater by peanut husk
A new bio-adsorbent to remove reactive dyes from industrial effluent was investigated in the present study. The adsorbent was the locally available peanut(Arachishypogaea)husk. Initially, sunfix red, a reactive dye commo...
Analysis of Bio-Accumulation of Heavy Metals in Seaweeds Ulva rigida and Halimeda opuntia in Validation of Their Safety For Use in Aquaculture Feeds in Kenya
With capture fisheries output being threatened by overfishing and dwindling stocks, a long term vision for the supply of fish to the worlds growing population is aquaculture. However, the issue of fish feeds remains one...
