ADAPTATION AND APPROPRIATION OF THE UKRAINIAN VERSION OF THE “POSTTRAUMATIC GROWTH INVENTORY” METHODIC

Abstract
The article presents the results of adaptation and appropriation of the Ukrainian version of the “Posttraumatic Growth Inventory” (PTGI) in sample the veterans of Anti-terror operation. (ATO). The “Posttraumatic Growth Inventory” is one of the first psychometric instruments for quantifying posttraumatic growth, which was developed in 1996. “Posttraumatic Growth Inventory” is a 21-item self-report inventory that uses a 6-point Likert scale. “Posttraumatic Growth Inventory” items were developed based on a literature review. According to the developers, all items of the instruments are divided into five factors: “related to others”( (7 items: e.g. ‘Knowing that I can count on people in times of trouble’), “new possibilities”( 5 items: e.g. ‘I’m able to do better things in my life’), “personal strengths” (4 items: e.g. ‘Knowing I can handle difficulties’), “spiritual change” (2 items: e.g. ‘I have a stronger religious faith’) and “appreciation of life” (3 items: e.g. ‘My prioritiesabout what is important in life’). In recent years, the instruments is actively used by the majority of foreign psychologists to scientifically study the manifestations of posttraumatic growth of combatants. The study found a high level of test-retest and internal reliability of the Ukrainian version of the “Posttraumatic Growth Inventory”. In particular, the obtained correlation coefficient of the total score of the instruments in checking retest reliability was r = 0.77 (n = 30, p <0.001). At the same time, reliability indicators on the internal consistency of items were at the level: the coefficient α-Cronbach - 0,91; Spearman-Brown coefficient - 0.88; Guttman's coefficient is 0.88. All item-total correlations were above r = 0,58. In addition, according to the validation results, a high correlation was obtained between the total points of the “Posttraumatic Growth Inventory” and “Changes in Outlook Questionnaire” (positive scale): r = 0.56 (p <0.001). Also, the total score of the “Posttraumatic Growth Inventory” demonstrated a statistically significant direct correlation with the total score of the “Life Orientation Test” r = 0.25 (p <0.001), as well as with the sum total of the subscale of positive expectations of the “Life Orientation Test” r = 0.27 (p < 0.001).
