Adsorptive Potentials of Salt-Modified Biosorbent For Wastewater Treatment.
Journal Title: International Journal of Engineering and Science Invention - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 1
Abstract
Activated carbon were prepared from periwinkle shells through carbonization in muffle furnace and activation in sulphate salt [Al2(SO4)3]. The prepared activated carbon (PWS) was used as adsorbent for the removal of phosphate from wastewater. Equilibrium studies on the adsorption process were carried out during which the effects of particle size, batch time and adsorption dosage on the adsorptive potentials of PWS were investigated. Adsorption isotherm models were also employed to describe the equilibrium data. The process was optimized and optimum process parameters obtained. The optimization results present PWS, a potential adsorbent with a performance of 95.38%. The results of the determined thermodynamic parameters reveal that, the adsorption process was endothermic βπ» > 0 and spontaneous βπΊ > 0 , except at a temperature of 313K when βπΊ < 0 .The increased randomness of the adsorbate molecules at the solid- solution interface was also confirmed by the positive value of the entropy(βπ > 0). The adsorption data were best described by Freundlick and Temkin isotherms withπ 2 > 0.9.
