Advanced Trailing Edge Blowing Concepts for Fan Noise Control
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2012, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
This study documents trailing edge blowing research performed to reduce rotor / stator interaction noise in turbofan engines. The existing technique of filling every velocity deficit requires a large amount of air and is therefore impractical. The purpose of this research is to investigate new blowing configurations in order to achieve noise reduction with lesser amounts of air. Using the new configurations air is not injected into every fan blade, but is instead varied circumferentially. For example, blowing air may be applied to alternating fan blades. This type of blowing configuration both reduces the amount of air used and changes the spectral shape of the tonal interaction noise. The original tones at the blade passing frequency and its harmonics are reduced and new tones are introduced between them. This change in the tonal spectral shape increases the performance of acoustic liners used in conjunction with trailing edge blowing.

Common aspects and differences in the behaviour of classical configuration versus canard configuration aircraft in the presence of vertical gusts, assuming the hypothesis of an elastic fuselage
The paper analyzes, in parallel, common aspects and differences in the behavior of classical configuration versus canard configuration aircraft in the presence of vertical gusts, assuming the hypothesis of an elastic fus...
Estimation of Wind Tunnel Corrections Using Potential Models
The evaluation of the tunnel correction remains an actual problem, especially for the effect of tunnel walls. Even if the experimental campaign meets the basic similitude criteria (Mach, Reynolds etc.), the wall effect o...
Small Vertical Axis Wind Turbines: aerodynamics and starting behavior
In urban areas the wind is very turbulent and unstable with fast changes in direction and velocity. In these environments, the use of small vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) becomes increasingly attractive due to severa...
Numerical illustration of the global and local stability and instability of the constant spatially developing 1D gas flow
In this paper different types of stabilities (global, local) with respect to instantaneous perturbations and permanent source produced time harmonic perturbations are numerically illustrated in case of a constant spatial...
