AGRONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF SUNFLOWER AS INFLUENCED BY SULPHUR NUTRITION AND SULPHUR OXIDISING MICROORGANISMS
Journal Title: International Journal of Microbiology Research - Year 2017, Vol 9, Issue 1
Abstract
Field experiment was conducted during kharif 2014 at STCR Farm, M.P.K.V., Rahuri (Maharashtra). Twenty treatment combinations consists of four levels of sulphur (0, 15, 30 and 45 kg S ha-1 respectively) and five sulphur oxidizing microorganisms (Thiobacillus thiooxidans, Thiobacillus ferroxidans, Aspergillus awamori, Aspergillus niger and consortium respectively) were laid out in Factorial randomized block design with three replications. The sulphur application @ 45 kg ha-1 to kharif sunflower significantly increased seed and oil yield (19.89 q ha-1 and 812.48 kg ha-1).The yield contributing characters of sunflower viz., number of leaves, leaf area, plant height, head diameter, number of filled, unfilled and total grain per capitulum were significantly influenced by the 45 kg ha-1 sulphur application. Thiobacillus ferroxidans sulphur oxidising microorganism was found beneficial for all the yield attributing characters except number of unfilled grains per capitulum. The interaction effects were significant.

ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THERMOPHILIC ACTINOMYCETES WITH EXTRACELLULAR ENZYME AND BIO-SURFACTANT PRODUCTION POTENTIAL FROM THAR DESERT, INDIA
In the present study thermophilic actinomycetes isolates were isolated from Thar desert of India. Identification of four actinomycetes isolates were done by various morphological and biochemical tests. All the isolates w...
MOLECULAR DOCKING AND INHIBITION STUDIES ON THE INTERACTION OF Prosopis juliflora ALKALOIDS AGAINST Fusarium solani (MART.) SACC
The alkaloid fraction of leaves of Prosopis juliflora were isolated by acid-base fractionation. The antifusarial activity of the alkaloid fractions against Fusarium solani were evaluated by disc diffusion assay and minim...
PLANT GROWTH PROMOTING CHARACTERISTICS OF RHIZOBIAL STRAINS ISOLATED FROM ROOT NODULES OF Vigna trilobata CULTIVARS
In the present study, six rhizobial strains were isolated from root nodules of Vigna trilobata plants raised in soils collected from geographically different areas in A.P., India. All the isolates were biochemically char...
FUNCTIONAL AND PROBIOTIC POTENTIAL OF INDIGENOUS BACILLUS COAGULANS AND BACILLUS PUMILUS STRAINS
The spore forming Bacillus species have created enormous interest as probiotics in the recent years, because of it’s most important character of thermo-stability that assures its viability in the finished product. Thus...
A STUDY OF ATYPICAL MANIFESTATIONS IN PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS CORRELATING WITH CD4 COUNT IN HIV SEROPOSITIVE PATIENTS
Background: HIV infection is major risk factor for progression to active tuberculosis. The typical symptoms, upper lobe disease and sputum positive for AFB are seen in patients with CD4 T cell count above 200 cells/cu µ...
