ALEPPO EVENT WHICH AS A REACTION TO TANZİMAT (1850)

Abstract
Throughtout history Aleppo city has an importent location. Besides, commercial, economic and social developments in Aleppo is contribute both for this area and for surrounding states. In the first half of the nineteen century, two historical importent episodes became in the citiy. First, the fact that the city was invaded by Iprahim Paşha, second, sad events in the city where some against innovations was presented Tanzimat ediction for non-Muslims. In addition, the greath earthquike in 1822 caused to standstill economic and social environment in Aleppo. This standstill brought negatives in trade with Europe and and regional trade. Local landmark, who sing into blief in lost social and political position, could not accept comprehensive changies brought by Tanzimat. Somewhere in villagies and city centre (Aleppo) was seen reaction movements. There is benefit to indicate the main causes of the events, these are those: a) Occupation of Egypt by Kavalalı Mehmed Ali Paşha and the begining of a whole new area in this region, b) during the Ibrahim Paşha, it is having heavy taxes, c) Ibrahim Paşha declared that müslims and non-müslims is equal and they are no diffrent from each other, d) in addetion, ther was also reaction of the public against military service. Lack of the proper rule and not knowing when soldiers will return to them home are reasons for the increasing reactions According to knowledge which is picked up from archives document brouk out in October 19, 1850, on Thursday night. Initiated events by Abdullah Bey and his men in the neighborhood of the Bâb-ı Nîreb lasted about tree weeks. Thanks to measures of Aleppo governor and measures of the Istanbul government, Aleppo events have been deactivited. Disturbances, which was experienced in Aleppo centure, was written by Ibrahim Paşha who divan clerk (sofa clerk) of governor Zarif Mustafa Paşha. From this perspective, our document is very importent in terms of first-hand source.
