Journal Title: Journal of Henan Agricultural University - Year 2022, Vol 56, Issue 3

Abstract

[Objective] This study analyzes the impact of risk perception and insurance cognition on farmers’ insurance participation behavior, so as to further clarify the internal logic and action path between risk perception and insurance cognition. [Method] Based on the survey data of 736 farmers in Henan Province, logistic regression model was used for empirical analysis. [Result] The empirical results show that risk perception and insurance cognition have a significant role in promoting farmers’ participation in insurance, while insurance cognition plays an intermediary role between subjective risk and farmers’ participation in insurance. At the same time, the proportion of crop farming income is different in the impact of farmers’ risk perception and insurance cognition on their insurance participation behavior. [Conclusion] In order to promote the development of agricultural insurance, it is still necessary to enhance farmers’ risk awareness and risk management capabilities, to innovate insurance publicity methods to improve farmers’ insurance awareness and recognition, to fully consider the differences in farmers’ family endowments, and to optimize and innovate insurance policies.
