An in depth analysis of a song of Tagore : shudhu jaowa asa

Abstract

The object of study of the present paper is a well known song of Tagore : shudhu jaowa asa. This study is confined to the poetic aspect of the song ; the musical aspect is excluded. Here Tagore dwells on one aspect of love : the inability to communicate. The theme of this song is the gap between thought and language. We have undertaken an in depth study of the song at lexical, morpho-syntactic and semantic levels. We have attempted to demonstrate that the salient linguistic features of this song are in conformity with its theme.
