An Optimum Retrofit Strategy for Rehabilitation of Reinforced Concrete Buildings Using FRP for Columns
Journal Title: Caspian Journal of Applied Sciences Research - Year 2012, Vol 1, Issue 13
Abstract
Application of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) for the purpose of retrofitting of concrete structures has been growing rapidly in recent decades. Reinforced Concrete (RC) column is known as a member of building structure that is susceptible to axial and moment force due to gravity and earthquake loads simultaneously. Numerous studies have demonstrated that remarkable resistance enhancement can be achieved when building structure is retrofitted using FRP. Apart from global responses of the structures, deploying less amount of FRP will lead to a cost effective retrofitting process while the desired performance design is achieved. The current research is an attempt to dominate the given earthquake response spectrum through developing an algorithm instead of trial-and-error method of analysis and making decision. This goal is achieved through developing a novel strategy resulting in an economical rehabilitation process. In this regards, SAP2000 software is employed to analyze the structure of buildings. Capability of the proposed strategy is examined in a 3-story frame under gravity and lateral force in pushover procedure. It should be noted that, ATC-40 guideline rules have been adopted in order to develop the model and the mathematical analysis process.
