Analysis and Insights on Passenger Flow Characteristics of Guangzhou-Foshan Intercity Subway Lines
Journal Title: Urban Mass Transit - Year 2025, Vol 28, Issue 4
Abstract
[Objective] At present, under the background of Guangzhou-Foshan urban integration development, subway facilities in the two cities are also showing an integrated development trend. The planning and design of Guangzhou-Foshan intercity subway lines is influenced by the interactive passenger flow between cities. In this regard, it is necessary to analyze the passenger flow characteristics of Guangzhou-Foshan intercity subway lines. [Method] Regarding Guangzhou-Foshan Line and Foshan Metro Line 2 Phase I Project two intercity subway lines, the overall passenger flow characteristics of the lines are analyzed respectively, and the spatio-temporal distribution characteristics of passenger flow on the lines are elaborated from aspects of station passenger flow distribution, interval passenger flow distribution, peak hour sectional passenger flow distribution, and full day passenger flow time distribution. Based on a comparison of passenger flow characteristics of the Guangzhou-Foshan Line and Foshan Metro Line 2, relevant suggestions are put forward. [Result & Conclusion] Guangzhou-Foshan intercity subway lines mainly serve intercity commuting passenger flow,in selecting standards and formations, a certain amount of flexibility should be reserved to avoid insufficient transportation capacity and limited service levels in the future. Due to the large transfer volume of transfer stations at the junction of the two cities, full consideration should be given to the planning and design of transfer stations to maximize transfer efficiency and comfort. In terms of intercity subway lines, the passenger flow benefits of the line when connecting to the outer areas of Guangzhou are lower than that when connecting to the central urban area. Therefore, in the subsequent planning and design of the Guangzhou-Foshan intercity subway line, the radiation of the Guangzhou core area should be fully considered to ensure its passenger flow level, improve subway service capacity, optimize passenger flow prediction, together with planning and design.
