Apllication of Response Surface Methodlogy (RSM) for Statistical Analaysis, Modeling and Optimization of Removal of Phenol from Aqueous Solutions by Aluminum-Modified Scoria Powder

Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2015, Vol 9, Issue 10

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the removal of phenol from aqueous solutions by aluminum-modified Scoria powder (ASP).The experiments were performed based on a central composite design (CCD) and analyzed using response surface methodology (RSM). In order to phenol removal process, three significant variables, including adsorbent dosage (0.1- 1 g/L), Phenol concentration (50-250 mg/l) and retention times (5- 100 min) were studied. Three dimensional plots demonstrate relationships between the phenol removal efficiency and paired factors (when another factor was maintained at its optimal level), which describe the performance of ASP in a batch process. The results show that phenol removal efficiency in aqueous solution affected by three investigated factors. Maximum phenol removal efficiency of more than 99% was achieved at the optimum conditions (ASP dosage of 1 g/l, the phenol concentration of 50 mg/l and contact time of 100 min).
