APPARENT ILEAL DIGESTIBILITY OF PROTEIN AND AMINOACIDS OF CANOLA MEAL IN RECENTLY WEANED PIGLETS

Journal Title: Revista MVZ Cordoba - Year 2009, Vol 14, Issue 1

Abstract

Objective. To obtain apparent ileal digestibility coefficients (AIDC) of protein (CP) and aminoacids (AA) of canola meal in weaned piglets. Materials and methods. A simple “T” cannula was inserted at the distal ileum level of 24 weaned 17-day-old, 5.5 kg piglets. The piglets were assigned to one of 3 treatments: Reference diet (C) made with casein and corn meal; CCM diet (casein-10% canola meal); and CPCM (casein-10% pelleted canola meal). Results. The AIDC of CP and AA from diet C were superior (p<0.05), except for some CPCM amino acids which had similar AIDC (p>0.05) to C. No effect of post weaning time was observed (p>0.05) on CP and AA AIDC, except for methionine. Nitrogen and AA AIDC from PCM were greater (p<0.05) than those of CM. Conclusions. 10% PCM diets in piglets can be implemented using coefficients reported in this paper.
