Artystyczna i wychowawcza równowaga indywidualności dyrygenta i zespołu chóralnego na przykładzie Katedralnego Chóru Chłopięco-Męskiego „Pueri Cantores Thorunienses”
Journal Title: Musica Ecclesiastica - Year 2015, Vol 10, Issue
Abstract
As a background of the presentation, a history of development of boys’ choirs and their role in the Christian civilization are presented. The main part of the article however is devoted to the challenges and techniques that are applied when new members of a future choir ensemble are selected. During such a test, the so-called musical ear is checked, among the other abilities, like emission of voice and its clarity and quality. Also the personality of the candidate is important together with his ability to concentrate and to follow a discipline, both so crucial in training of potential choir members. In addition, in the article the challenges and responsibilities of the director of the choir are presented. The director has to use an appropriate pedagogical approach and psychological sensitivity to sculpture not only the harmony of the voices of his choir, but also to try to reach the equilibrium of the personality of the ensemble, as the whole, as well as of each member of the choir individually. This expectation puts an additional responsibility on the director’s shoulders, since he has to realize and measure the potential abilities of the choir he is directing. In the presentation many conclusions and practical remarks derived from the experience of many years of work with the boys’ choirs are shared with the reader. All of them are based on the honest, straightforward and down to earth comments, which are derived from artistic work with the young boys, the members of choir. A rich list of technical issues of the emission of a voice, like being in a control of the voice, a proper breathing regiment, or diction is presented. This makes all the remarks even more important for a specific methodology of work with boys in order to create and keep in good condition the artistic and pedagogical aspects and characteristic of the choir. The broad spectrum of the conclusions derived from a deep analysis of musical, psychological, pedagogical, and moral points of view, is illustrated here by the work and success of the Boys’ and Men’s Cathedral Choir Pueri Cantores Thorunienses, organized and trained to its perfection by the author of this presentation.
