Journal Title: International Research Journal of Applied and Basic Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 8, Issue 6
Abstract
Physical activities proportional to the conditions of pregnancy could help promote maternal health and improve fetal growth. Physical activity training based on maternal needs is highly important. Therefore, this study aims to assess the educational needs of physical activity during pregnancy in the mothers referring to the health care centers in Zanjan in 2013. This is a descriptive-analytical and crosssectional study. In this study, 697 pregnant women, who referred to the health centers, were selected through stratified cluster sampling method. The inclusion criterion consisted of experiencing last gestation resulted in childbirth in the gestational age exceeding 20 weeks. The exclusion criteria included uncertainty about gestational age, multiple gestations, and bed rest during gestation period. The data were collected through questionnaires. The results were analyzed by the statistical methods including chisquare, Fisher’s exact test, analysis of variance, and multivariate logistic regression. According to the results of the present researchThe results of this study indicate that mothers greatly need education in various areas of physical activities. Therefore, specific programs to raise awareness towards nutritional behavior among pregnant women and meeting their educational needs are recommended to be considered.
