Assessment of Hiring Business of Heavy Equipment in Nepal

Abstract
Heavy equipments are most essential element for any type of construction work. It makes the construction work simple, fast and improve the quality of work. Effective utilization, operation, maintenance and determination of appropriate hire rate for machine is challenging work for machine owner.The purpose of the study was to study the status of hiring business of heavy equipment in Nepal.Information about heavy equipment market was identified through structured questionnaire that was asked to machine owner, Heavy Equipment Entrepreneure’s Association of Nepal (HEAN) members, authorized dealers of machine; group discussion with related personnel; reports and publication of HEAN, Department of Road (DOR) and Department of Transport Management (DOTM). From the study, it was found that numbers of machines are increasing but support facilities like workshop, skill mechanics and skill operator are not increasing in the same rate. Spare parts for repair and maintenance of heavy equipments are available but owners find the price more than what it should be.
