ASSESSMENT OF NUMERICAL WIND FORECASTS FOR THE GDANSK BAY AREA DURING THE POLRODEX'97 EXPERIMENT
Journal Title: Biuletyn Instytutu Morskiego - Year 1999, Vol 26, Issue 1
Abstract
The paper presents results of forecasts of wind field parameters over the Baltic Sea for the Gdansk Bay area obtained using two atmosphere models: UMPL (ICM Warsaw University) and HIRLAM (SMHI Sweden). The obtained results are compared with field observations made on the open sea and at coastal stations during the POLRODEX'97 experiment. The agreement is quite good, although the influence of local weather conditions cannot be neglected.
