Journal Title: Scholars Journal of Applied Medical Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 10

Abstract

Abstract: Previous studies supported a link between the ABO blood type and survival for several types of malignancies. Nonetheless, the relationship between ABO blood type and gastrointestinal cancers has not been rigorously evaluated. However, in relation to GIT cancers, these findings are inconsistent and contradictory. The goal of this retrospective analysis study was conducted for analysis to access ABO blood groups potential role of in GIT carcinoma. The study was conducted in the Department of Physiology in collaboration with the Department of Radiotherapy at Mathura Das Mathur Hospital of Dr. S. N. Medical College, Jodhpur (Rajasthan), on 174 clinically diagnosed GIT cancer patients out of which 76 were males and 98 were females. The study period was from September 2006 to March 2008. The standard agglutination test was used to determine the blood groups. The statistical association of ABO blood groups and risk of gastrointestinal tract cancers was found out with Odd Ratios (OR). Maximum GIT cancer cases (66 out of 174) were found in blood group A individuals (Odd Ratios {OR}-8.25) in reference with blood group AB (cases-12; OR- 1). Thus it is reported that blood type A highly associated with GIT cancers, followed by B, O and AB type. The female were found to be higher incidence to develop of GIT cancer in comparison to males.
