Attempts for a Better Understanding of Entropy by the Students in CMU
Journal Title: Analele Universitatii "Eftimie Murgu" Resita. Fascicula de Inginerie - Year 2015, Vol 22, Issue 1
Abstract
Regarding thermodynamics, the perception of students is that unlike the first law, the second law has not simple statements. Despite of this, the first two laws are related to each other and their combination shows the influence of entropy on energy. The understanding of the second law is the path to student knowledge related to the increase in entropy and the decrease of the capacity of energy to do useful work or energy. This paper describes an experiment carried out in Constanta Maritime University (CMU), with students enrolled in Electromechanics Faculty, in the second year of study, which reveals the need to enrich the traditional course of Thermodynamics, in order to increase the ability of students to deal with the second law and the concept of entropy.

A Solution to Reduce Pollutant Emissions by Recovering the Flue Gases Waste Heat
From the point of view of the energy efficiency improvement and environmental protection, the recovery of waste heat from thermal systems is a necessity. The heat recovered through an economizer is a viable solution in o...
Topology Optimization of Switched Reluctance Motors to Increase Energy Efficiency
This paper proposes - and analyses in comparison – new topologies for switched reluctance motors (armature rotor thereof). The aim is to find a topology that minimizes losses and maximizes the torque developed by the SRM...
Intelligent Agent for Damages Detection
We introduce in this paper an intelligent system that automatically de-tects the damage in cantilever beams called AgentMec. This agent is creating its knowledge using a database with the first ten natural frequencies of...
An Application for the Improvement of the Transportation System of the Flour in a Grain Mill using "PID Compact"
The paper presents an application based on a PLC Simatic S7-1200, using the "PID_Compact" logical function, which can be used for the improvement of control systems. We also present a practical application: a system for...
The Mechanism for Actuating and Automating the Shaking Tables
In the paper, is present the shaking table designed for the laboratory use, to simulate the earthquakes behaviors. With this equipment we can study the dynamic behavior of civil engineering structures subjected to seismi...
