Automatic Calibration for Estimation of the Parameters of Rainfall-Runoff Model
Journal Title: Journal of River Engineering - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 8
Abstract
This paper describes the demonstration of an automated procedure for calibrating of AFFDEF model parameters. For this purpose, SCE algorithm which linked to the code of AFFDEF model, was used to calibrate spatial variation of model parameters. nine parameters were used to calibrate simulated discharge of Kameh catchment which is located in the northern part of Torbat e Heidarieh township in Iran country. Two historical floods were used for calibration and one for validation. The objective function, which is minimized by genetic algorithm, was computed as the sum of the squared differences between simulated and observed discharge in the model subroutine, coded in Fortran software. The results showed that the SCE technique linked to AFFDEF as a simulation-optimization model, can provide satisfactory results in calibration period. But unsatisfactory in validation stage which can be interpreted that parameter values according to the catchment hydrological conditions that obtained from calibration flood events may not be representative for another flood event (validation flood event) which made more the necessity of having more flood events and adjusting them based on other flood events hydrological conditions.

Determination of the Best Model for Flood Flows in the Western Basin of Lake Urmia
Today, the management of water resources has been taken into consideration based on sustainable development in the world. Natural events such as floods have been among human problems in the past and present and hydrol...
Floodplain Modeling Using HEC-RAS and MIKE11 Models
A significant deficiency of most computer models used for stream floodplain analysis is that the locations of structures impacted by floodwaters, such as bridges, roads, and buildings, cannot be effectively compared t...
3D Simulation of Flow over a Triangular Broad-Crested Weir
On natural streams where it is necessary to measure wide range of discharges, a triangular control has several advantages. Firstly, it provides a large breadth at high flows, so that the backwater effect is not excessive...
Dam Break Modeling for Large Earth and Rock-fill Dams
Dam break analysis plays a very important role in the risk assessment of dams. Large dams pose significantly higher risks to the people and property downstream of the dam as compared to smaller dams. So the flooding r...
Experimental Study of the Shear Stress Effect on the Deposition Process of the Cohesive Sediments
Describing the behavior of cohesive sediments is so complicated; and the flocculation of these sediments increases the amount of sedimentation.Cohesive sediments are characterized as a mixture of predominantly clay an...
