BACKGROUND TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN UKRAINE

Abstract
The article considers the main preconditions of the sustainable development of institutions of higher education in Ukraine, defines the essence, the problem of education and the tendencies of world development of education and its crisis state; defined the requirements that modern education should meet. The essence and peculiarities of the activity of institutions of higher education are considered, their current state is characterized; is determined on the basis of the manifestation of the global crisis in the activities of higher education institutions. The importance of the quality of education in ensuring the sustainable development of Ukrainian society is determined. The world tendencies in the development of education and world global goals of sustainable development for the period from 2016 to 2030 are considered. The influence of higher education on sustainable development of society is considered, the place of education reform in the priority directions of the Strategy of sustainable development "Ukraine - 2020" is determined.
