Beads of the Mokino Cemetery (3th – 6th Centuries Ad) in Perm Region

Journal Title: Поволжская Археология - Year 2019, Vol 3, Issue 29

Abstract

The paper introduces into scientific discourse the beads from the Mokino burial ground and a series of accurately dated complexes (burials). The authors verify the modern concept of the site’s chronology. Beads from the collections of Mokino burial ground were distributed into separate chronological areas using the spatial analysis. Characteristic trends which reflected in a change of cultural and chronological markers were identified for each of the periods. The chronology of the “bead boom” and amber bead trends were determined for the sites of the Kama region. A variety of counterparts from the sites of the Volga and Black Sea regions were identified for a number of bead types. A description of the color scheme of the beads from the burial ground is provided, which reveals a cultural specificity as compared with the sites of the same period. As a result, the authors confirm the existing dating of the site, and reveal the potential of using spatial analysis of the site in terms of its areas, as opposed to individual closed complexes.
