Beyond the Scoreboard: The Impact of Facility Shortages on Sports Development

Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2024, Vol 29, Issue 3

Abstract

This research investigates the beyond the scoreboard: the impact of facility shortages on sports development in public secondary schools in Antipolo City. Utilizing a convergent parallel design, the study integrates both quantitative and qualitative data to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issue. The study also investigates the opinions of other important stakeholders, such as administrators, sports coaches, and teachers, on how instrumental sports facilities are for the holistic development of students. In the same way, the findings suggest that a lack of adequate sports amenities goes a long way in undermining the effectiveness of training, quality of coaching as well as the entire performance of the athletes quite significantly. An absence of these facilities does present challenges to teachers/coaches, and athletes when training athletes or coaching them and during competitions. Further, such limitations impact the student-athlete's capacity for self-control, ability to collaborate, and general performance at school. Even so, teachers and coaches, along with the athletes, have found ways of adapting to the adverse circumstances of facilities that are lacking. The study also speaks on how sports ideal facilities make it easy to shape among students the ability to be leaders, team players, emotionally stable, and healthy. But for the students in Public Secondary School in Antipolo City to develop those mentioned attributes there’s a need for these facilities to be provided within the school. The study makes a significant contribution to past literature regarding the impact of facility resources on sports development by making useful recommendations about sports programs.
