Bridging the Gaps: Analysing Science Resource Availability, Utilization and Teacher Competence in Maguindanaon-Populated Secondary Schools

Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2025, Vol 35, Issue 5

Abstract

This study endeavored to determine the potential impact of the availability and utilization of science learning resources and teacher competency across different Key Result Areas (KRAs). The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between these factors and teacher performance. Using statistical analysis, significant negative correlations were found between resource availability and teacher competence in KRAs 1–4, suggesting that increased access to resources may be linked to decreased competence in these areas. Interestingly, a positive correlation was observed with KRA5, indicating that resources may improve competency in this particular area. Similar negative patterns were found with the utilization of science learning resources, although there was a positive correlation with KRA5. Overall, the data shows a significant negative relationship between both the availability and utilization of resources and teacher competency. Based on these findings, it is recommended that schools and educational policymakers prioritize professional development programs to equip teachers with the skills necessary to integrate resources effectively into their teaching practice.
