Burnout syndrome in nursing staff and quality of care

Abstract

Introduction:Burnout Syndrome is a psychosomatic disease that is reflected in all work environments, likewise, it is very frequent in nursing staff, due to the great demand for activities. Objective:To determine the influence of Burnout Syndrome on the quality of care provided by nursing staff. Materials and methods: correlational, quantitative, and cross-sectional study, made up of 50 nursing professionals and 80 patients treated at the Mount Sinai General Hospital, between November 2022 and February 2023. Two instruments were applied, the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and SERVQUAL. The data was stored in the Excel sheet, with the SPSS program contingency tables and correlations between variables were made, in addition the JASP Software in its version 0.16.4 was used for the design of the descriptive analysis. Results:94% of nursing professionals present a high level of emotional exhaustion, 98% have a high level of depersonalization, and 92% present a medium level of non-personal fulfillment. 51.3% of the patients rarely perceive that the nursing staff greets them cordially during their care, 67.5% of the patients perceive that sometimes the nursing staff gives them the necessary time to talk and the relationship between the Burnout Effect and SERVQUAL it is low. Conclusion:There is a high prevalence of Burnout Syndrome in nursing professionals. The technical quality was moderately favorable and the human quality was perceived as moderately favorable
