Calendars of the Polish National Alliance of the United States of North America. Selected topics
Journal Title: Z Badań nad Książką i Księgozbiorami Historycznymi - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue
Abstract
The paper presents calendars published by the one of the oldest Polish diaspora organizations in the USA – the Polish National Alliance (PNA) of the United States of North America – in Chicago. The calendars were originally released in the form of books in 1910-1922, and later, 1991-2016, as wall calendars. The subject of discussion and analysis are the issues from the turn of 20th and 21st century. Only the contents of the calendars together with their formal and editorial elements have been reviewed. The described calendars come from the Author’s private collection. Card almanacs were intended for activists of the PNA and were published as supplements to the weekend issues of the „Polish Daily News” at the end of each year. The covered topics included: Polish people in the life and history of America, the history and the present situation of Poland, and various forms of PNA activities in the Polish and American communities. This way, not only the alliance was promoted, but first of all, the Polish national heritage abroad. Outside of Chicago, other Polish calendars, which are mentioned in the paper, are also published. The other Polish calendars mentioned in the paper are also published beyond Chicago.
