Calicotis Meyrick (Lepidoptera: Stathmopodidae) new to China, with descriptions of three new species
Journal Title: Journal of Insect Biodiversity - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 13
Abstract
The genus Calicotis Meyrick, 1889 is recorded from China for the first time. Calicotis cuspidata sp. nov., C. dilatata sp. nov. and C. uncinata sp. nov. are described as new, and C. crucifera Meyrick, 1889 is newly recorded for China. Photographs of adults and illustrations of the genitalia are provided, along with a key to the identification of the described Chinese species and a map to show their distribution.

Sex pairing of three highly dimorphic Arctiinae (Lepidoptera: Erebiidae) females in French Guyana and description of three new species from Brazil
Following a general survey of the Neotropical Arctiinae using the so-called "barcoding" technique, three highly dimorphic females were identified and associated with their corresponding males. Idalus larissa Druce, 189...
Rensch's rule is not verified in melanopline grasshoppers (Acrididae)
Sexual size dimorphism (SSD) is almost universal in animals. Rensch’s rule proposes that SSD increases with increasing average body size in taxa where males are larger than females (male- biased SSD; MBSSD) and decreas...
First record of the genus Pareumenes de Saussure, 1855 (Hymenoptera: Vespidae: Eumeninae) from the Philippine Islands with description of a new species
A new species of the genus Pareumenes de Saussure, 1855, from the Philippine Islands (Mindanao and Samar), P. impunctatus sp. nov., is described. This is the first record of the genus from the Philippines. A key to the...
Measuring insect rarity: practical issues, pragmatic approaches
Rarity is often considered an indication of species extinction risk, and rarity measures are used as important tools to predict species vulnerability and hence to establish conservation priorities. For these reasons, r...
Phenotypic plasticity in morphological features of Thelaxes suberi (Del Guercio, 1911) (Hemiptera: Aphidoidea) feed on Quercus (L.) species
Phenotypic plasticity is a common and important phenomenon in aphids, particularly in host plant utilization. It has been shown that Thelaxes suberi species fed on three closely related Quercus species showed high amou...
