Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2023, Vol 15, Issue 10

Abstract

This study determine the challenges, opportunities and work commitment of teachers to Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN's) in the Schools Division of Iloilo for the School Year 2018-2019 as inputs to LSEN's teachers professional development program. There were 136 respondents of the study composed of all LSEN's teachers from the Schools Division of Iloilo. They were classified according to their age, sex civil status, academic preparation position and length of service. The researcher-made questionnaire duly validated and tested for reliability was used to gather the data in this study. The statistical tools used were frequency count, percentage and mean for the descriptive statistics; and Mann Whitney/U-test, Kruskall Wallis/ H-test, Spearman rho for inferential statistics. The level of significance was set at 0.05. The statistical Package for Social Sciences was used in the processing of the data. Results revealed that although teachers are only moderately challenged in dealing with LSENs, there are also high opportunities for them. They are also very committed as regards their work. The development program formulated by the author noted that the parent should be educated to assist their children with special educational needs at home.
