Characterization of thermally affected steels by nanoindentation
Journal Title: Recueil de mécanique - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
The thermal affectation is the basis of metallurgical modifications of the base metal which can induce fragilities, decreases in mechanical strength, lack of ductility ... These modifications depend on the material examined, the process used, the mode of operation followed ... This research is devoted to the experimental study, whose objective is the study of low-carbon steels who sustained of the various heat treatments. Then, the instrumented nanoindentation test is developed to analyze the characteristic loading and unloading curves of the examined specimens. In this case, we focus on the effect of heat treatments on the metallographic examination and the mechanical properties of the studied steels. At the same time, we study the coherence of the results obtained between the heat treatment and the nanoindentation process in the determination of elasticity modulus and hardness.

Quantification of damage and fatigue life under random loading
The fatigue of components and structures under real stress is a very complex process that appears at the grain scale. The present work is to highlight a variable loading fatigue life prediction process using the Rain-flo...
Numerical investigation of latent heat thermal energy storage system
The present work aims to study numerically the performance of a latent heat thermal energy storage unit. Which is composed of shell and tube. The annular space is filled by a phase change material (PCM), however the wate...
Study of aerosol deposition in 90° bend turbulent flow using Lagrangian RANS approach
This work presents a numerical study of turbulent flow of a gas loaded with particles with various diameters in a 90° bend. This study can be an effective way to predict the dispersion and deposition of aerosol in transp...
Modeling of thermodynamic properties of binary and ternary mixtures. Determination of phase diagrams
The prediction and the determination of the azeotropic point of the binary or ternary refrigerants are very important in refrigerating industry. In this task, a simple method is presented in order to predict and determin...
Definition and prediction of thermal state of cylinder assembly of an internal combustion engine: a new methodology
This study deal with a new approach for the definition and prediction of the thermal state of internal combustion engine elements. In this paper, it is well elaborated for diesel engine cylinder liner. The scientific inn...
