Abstract
One of the features of Ukrainian composer art is great attention to the vocal. There are many choral works in the works of contemporary composers, and in them one can find the features inherent in vocal polyphonic culture, which has extremely deep roots. The features of the choral work of the leading Ukrainian composer Igor Shcherbakov are considered in the article. Igor Shcherbakov is one of the great Ukrainian composers of the young generation. I. Shcherbakov an appeal to the great choral genres – cantata, concert-requiem, oratorio. It is necessary to emphasize certain factors, which testify to the deep connection with the national choral tradition. First of all, the appeal to the Cantata genre and the choral concert is a leading feature of Ukrainian composer style. Accordingly, it can be pointed out that the use of these genres is evidence of the development of traditions laid down by the predecessors and contemporaries of the composer. Of particular interest in the choral works of I. Shcherbakov is the “Dream”, which the author defines as a con- cert-requiem intended for tenor, reader, children’s and mixed choirs, a large symphony orchestra and an organ composed of eight parts. Musical imagery of this work is connected with the incarnation of the tragic events of the Holodomor. An expressive, dynamic and vibrant melodic line contributes to revealing the poetic idea of the author of the words. Quite extraordinary is the fact that in this work elements of the Catholic mesa and intonation, inherent in the national musical culture, are combined. I. Shcherbakov uses Ukrainian poetry of Y. Plaksyuk, canonical Latin texts and the text of the Orthodox prayer. In the concert, the requiem not only uses texts – Dies irae and Lacrimosa, but also uses their musical component. In this work one can draw a parallel with the spiritual music of the Orthodox tradition, where several choirs were used. Thus, the presence of the reader, children and mixed choirs in the requiem-cantata is a factor that brings his performativity composition closer to that which is inherent in worship (chorus of parishioners and a professional choir). I. Shcherbakov’s choral work is characterized by an appeal to major genres – cantatas, concert-requiem, oratorios, and concerts. A similar genre circle is a testimony to the continuation of the traditions laid down in the previous musi- cal culture. A specific feature of the author’s method of composer is the interest in the spiritual themes in choral art. In his large-scale works, I. Shcherbakov cites signs for the history of music in a theme aimed at maximally simplifying the understanding of the author’s plan. The choir can act as one of the instruments of general orchestral sound, and on the contrary, become a central and key actor who will convey the main content of the work. The composer uses a variety of techniques related to the deployment of musical material in the choir party, such as ringtones, simulations and antiphon.
