Clinical and radiological evaluation of the healing process of postresection transosseous defects with and without guided bone regeneration – preliminary report

Abstract
Aim of the study: To evaluate the healing process of postresection transosseous defects with and without guided regeneration methods after 6 and 12 months.Material and methods: The investigation was carried out on a group of 14 patients, treated in the Department of Oral Surgery, Medical Academy of Wroclaw in the years 2004-2007, with diagnosis of chronic periapical lesions. The examined material consisted of 14 through-and-through postresection defects. The material was divided into three groups: I BG (4 defects) – treated with resorbable collagen membrane, II BOC/PRP (5 defects) – treated with xenogenic bovine material with platelet rich plasma, III C (5 defects) – left to heal spontaneously.Results: The best therapeutic results were obtained in group II.Conclusions: Treatment with conventional technique and with the application of collagen membrane was not effective.
