Cnota miłości jako podstawa wartości człowieka w nauczaniu bł. ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki

Abstract
Blessed Rev. Jerzy Popiełuszko talked a lot about the basic values of man and society in his sermons given during‘Holy Masses for Poland’ in Żoliborz. He mentioned, among others, truth, freedom, human dignity, justice, solidarity and love. The virtue of love is presented in the teaching of the Blessed as the foundation of all virtues, which, as he claimed, should be respected in the period of communist enslavement. Talking about social justice, he often underscored the essence of love as the foundation of God’s law. Rev. Jerzy emphasized that fidelity to the Gospel is measured by the attitude of love, which is a conscious and voluntary decision to follow Jesus Christ’s law. True love is always difficult because it requires self-denial; on the other hand, it contributes to the greatness of man and brings the most fruitful effects. The virtue of love was also visible in the life of the Blessed when he tried to protect his compatriots persecuted in the period of martial law. This virtue was fully fulfilled in his sacrificial martyr’s death out of love for God, neighbours and homeland.
