Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to compare the role of families in academic achievement and adjustment of female high school students in terms of interaction and involvement in their homework. Participants of the present study included all female high school students in Tehran during2012-2013. A total of 150 students and 150 parents (n = 300) were selected as samples using a cluster random sampling method. The results showed that 1) there is a positive and significant relationship between parents-child interactions and student adjustment; 2) there is a positive and significant relationship between mother-child interactions and academic achievement; 3) there is a positive but insignificant relationship between father-child interaction and academic achievement. Thus, the findings show that parent interactions can influence on increased academic achievement and adjustment of their children; while the direct involvement of parents in homework of children does not influence on their academic achievement and adjustment.
