Comparison of intertrochanteric fracture fixation with dynamic hip screw versus proximal femoral nailing
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Traumatology & Surgical Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
This study is conducted to compare DHS and PFN in treatment of intertrochanteric fractures. The purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the advantages and result of both devices with respect to operation time, blood loss, blood transfusion, hospital stay and functional outcome. Forty patient of age group forty five years to ninety years, twenty six male, fourteen female were included in the study. Patients were divided into two treatment groups. Group A for dynamic hip scraw and Group B for proximal femoral nailing. There was no significant difference between two groups with respect to postoperative mobilization, haemoglobin level, blood transfusion. There was no significant difference in hospital stay and functional outcome between two groups. However PFN had an edge over DHS in terms of operative time, blood loss, neck shaft angle and shortening .
