COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS OF HEARING LOSS: METHODOLOGY AND COMPARATIVE EVALUATION
Journal Title: International scientific journal Science and Innovation - Year 2024, Vol 3, Issue 11
Abstract
Hearing loss affects all ages, impacting communication and quality of life. Common types include idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL), age-related, and congenital hearing loss. Younger patients often show better recovery, especially in ISSNHL, while age-related hearing loss in older adults can lead to cognitive decline. This study explores recovery and treatment effectiveness across age groups and hearing loss types. We conducted a literature review of 20 studies from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science, alongside clinical data analysis of 56 patients (ages 3-68) from a private hospital. Patients were diagnosed with congenital, noise-induced hearing loss, otitis media, and presbycusis and underwent screening, audiometry, OAEs, tympanometry, and cognitive assessments. Recovery durations and demographics were analyzed. Younger patients generally showed better recovery, especially with ISSNHL. Older adults benefited significantly from hearing aids and cochlear implants, improving function and quality of life. Congenital hearing loss required longer recovery times than noise-induced hearing loss. Age and hearing loss type impact recovery outcomes. While cochlear implants aid management, personalized treatments considering age and comorbidities are essential. Future research should emphasize long-term outcomes, advanced diagnostics, and pharmacological interventions to optimize recovery across patient groups
