CONSCIOUSNESS OF AIDS AMONG PEOPLE TRAINING COMBAT SPORTS

Abstract
Background. A particularly harsh aspect of the epidemic of AIDS is the epidemic of fear that accompanies it. Training conditions designing is associated with management as well as sportsmen work hygene and safety. The aim of this research was to evaluate the level of knowledge about AIDS/HIV.Material and methods. The research included 158 people training combat sports. The average age was x=19,3, and the level of technical advancement was between 3 kup and 2 dan. International questionnaire (National Health Interview Survey – AIDS Knowledge and Attitudes, used by U. S. Public Health Service), adapted to Polish conditions, was used as a method of research.Results. The obtained research results may indicate that all examined subjects had some contact with information concerning HIV/AIDS. The main sources of knowledge about HIV/AIDS were, respectively, television, the Internet and school. The examined persons were convinced that educational programmes on public television and the knowledge obtained at school as well as that received from coaches and sport doctors ought to be the best way to prevent HIV infection.Conclusions. The level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS among people training combat sports is satisfactory as far as etiology and general information are concerned. Despite a high level of HIV/AIDS knowledge among the examined, constant education aiming at improving knowledge is still neccessary as it is to conduct further research in order to obtain information concerning the level of knowledge among not only children and youth but also among various social groups.
