Contribution of Ata Hussain Khan and Naseem Ahmed Khan in the Spread and Practice of Agra Gharana in West Bengal

Abstract

Agra Gharana is one of the distinct and prime Gharana of Kheyal of Hindusthani Classical Music. It has a rich tradition of music. The Agra Gharana did not remain confine to its original geographical location, but was spread to West Bengal by many well known musicians / stalwarts of the Agra Gharana ,which included both hereditary musicians and non-hereditary musicians. The present research work presents the contribution of two of the hereditary vocalists of Agra Gharana, namely Ata Hussain Khan and Naseem Ahmed Khan, in the spread and practice of Agra Gharana in West Bengal.
