CRIMINAL CASE OF THE UKRAINIAN NATIONALISTS IN THE KHERSON REGION

Abstract
Kremlin power was afraid and still is afraid of Ukrainian nationalists. It seems to it that they are everywhere. The Ukrainian speaking their native language, singing folk songs appears to the Moscow citizen to be dangerous and becomes subject of physical destruction. With the help of dispossession of the kulaks, repressions, labor camps, forced migrations the Soviet power tried to kill the Ukrainian dream to have their own independent state. The six-volume edition case against settlers forced to move from Ivano Frankivsk to Kherson region, that is stored in the SSU (Security Service of Ukraine) archive, serves as an example of such policy. Mentioned criminal case was fabricated at the beginning of 1953. It was important to the National Commissariat of State Security Service to prove that ordinary tractor drivers participated in the organized crim¬inal group activity aimed at the Soviet Power overthrow. They allegedly hid arms in order to carry out their plan. According to the case materials the Cheka officers had known before the rummage who hid the arms and where. The death of Stalin and forthcoming events (arrest and shooting execution of Beria) became a problem for the officers. They did not know whether they should continue case implementation or free innocent victims of the case. Both variants did not suit well to their interests, so they tried to shift their responsibility onto another people and governmental departments. In the long run all the people being arrested during the investigation were released till the middle of 1954 but they had to keep silence on the events taken place during their imprisonment.
