Customs and practices of everyday life in the Lviv guild of rich stalls in the light of the 16th to the early 17th century guild records

Abstract

This article deals with customs and daily life practices in the Guild of Rich Stalls in early modern Lviv . It describes the guild elections, functions of guild seniors and other members (brethern), in particular supervision of armory, supply of guild tower, guild activity during anxious times, participation in shooting competitions, ceremonial processions, requiem masses, guild meetings, in payment of taxes, fees, contributions and donations for covering the guild expenses. The article shows in detail the purposes of such expenditures – repair of guild stalls, tower and altar, costs of legal proceedings, travel expenses, gifts and bribes. It also presents the rules of coexistence in guild, the observance of the principles of fair trade and penalty for its violation, and measures to prevent conflicts inside the guild.
