Cyber Propaganda and Disinformation: Crowdsourced Troll Units

Abstract
This study suggests a troll unit model based on crowdsourcing method for propaganda and disinformation operations in cyberspace. In recent years, troll units that conduct propaganda operations on social media have been attracting attention, the developments regarding capacity building and protection measures of many countries were covered in media. The prominent problem of troll units regarding operations towards foreign public opinion is the difficulty of having qualified human resources that can be permanently employed in large numbers. Crowdsourcing gives opportunities with respect to overcome this difficulty and increase performance and cost efficiency of troll units.
