Journal Title: Gujarat Medical Journal - Year 2017, Vol 72, Issue 2
Abstract
Schwannoma is a benign tumor arising from a schwann cell involving mainly intradural extramedullary region and schwannomatosis is one of the rare tumor syndrome having multiple schwannomas in absence of features of Neurofibromatosis 1 and Neurofibromatosis 2. Cystic changes in schwannomas are well documented but multiple cystic schwannomas in absence of Neurofibromatosis 1 and Neurofibromatosis 2 is a rare condition. We report a 26 year old male who presented progressive pain in right lower limb and weakness in right more than left lower limb for 2 years. The diagnosis of schwanomatosis was confirmed by family history, along with magnetic resonance imaging findings. Staged surgery was done for relief of symptoms and pathological confirmation of diagnosis. We present a case of multiple cystic spinal schwannomas with schwannomatosis and describing radiological and intraoperative findings of the disease.
