DATA FOR THE HISTORICAL-ETYMOLOGIC DICTIONARY OF DONETSK REGION’S SETTLEMENTS NAMES: KRAMATORSK (SOME NOTES ON THE OICONYM ORIGIN)

Abstract

In the article the new attitude about the oiconym Kramatorsk (Donetsk district) origin is proposed. The main aim of the article is revising current oiconym etymologic versions as well. In the article the origin of the prepositive composite part Kram- phonetically and semantically grounded in connection with the Psl. *kъrma / *kъrmъ ‘curvature, bend, unevenness, jut’. Also given some probable oiconym Kramatorsk semantic motivators – geographic terms as the designations of topographic and hydrographic country peculiarities. Various materials, covering several senturies, have been investigated in the given work. Their comparative analysis allowed the researcher to suggest a new approach to the origin and semantic development of the lexeme in question.
