Design and Application of Intelligent Completion Device (ICD) in Horizontal Wells, Bouri Oil Field, Libya

Journal Title: Libyan Journal of Engineering Science and Technology - Year 2022, Vol 2, Issue 1

Abstract

An Inflow Control Device (ICD) is choking device installed in the lower completion that is used to equalize the drainage inflow from the reservoir and into the well. This paper aims to study and evaluated the effect of ICD technology in decease water production and improve the productivity index (PI) which have been successfully used in hundreds mature well completion technology. In this work two wells have been selected for the study; Well #1, Well #2. The ICD units are installed at the horizontal sections of these wells in the Bouri oil field. It can be seen that ICD improved the productivity index (PI) by maximizing reservoir contact, minimizing coning by operating at lower drawdown, and increasing overall efficiency. Based on results of the performed calculations to determine the critical flow rate for water & gas coning; the first well are: Qocw = 1004.55 STB/day, Qocg = 958.094 STB/day. The second well are: Qocw = 1132.33 STB/day, Qocg = 1079.97 STB/day and the performed calculations to determine the time breakthrough for water & gas coning shows the time required for water & gas coning to happen in the second well are 629 days for water coning and 659 days for gas coning. The operations and economics strongly support the use of an ICD for better reservoir fluid management. The recommendations of this work and future development were established. Economic analysis is about the process of gathering the economic data required to performing the analysis.
